National Steinbeck Center Announces:
First Annual Tree For Peace Dedicatoion and Lighting Ceremony Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

SALINAS, CA (November 17th, 2009) The National Steinbeck Center located at One Main Street in Old town Salinas will be the location for the First Annual “A Tree For Peace” Dedication and Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009. The event is complimentary and open to the public to not only attend but participate.

Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue and representatives of the City of Salinas will dedicate the official Christmas Tree at the National Steinbeck. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. with ribbon writing and bow making; 5:00 p.m.; decorating of the tree; 5:15 p.m. Salinas High FFA Colors Presentation and Salute; 5:30 p.m. program and Salinas Jaycees Holiday Carol; and 5:45 p.m. the official tree lighting.

The event will feature a white ribbon passed out by the Salinas High School FFA and members of the community will be invited to write messages for peace. The messages will be tied into bows and installed on the tree. The tree is from Christmas Hills Tree Farm in Mossy Rock, Washington and has been shipped fresh courtesy of McShane’s Nursery & Landscape Supply.

Its permanent and special exhibits pay tribute to not only the life of Steinbeck, but also to his commitment to the forgotten and disenfranchised.
