Whether you face the excitement of a newly built home, a remodel or simply some needed help for upcoming entertaining, our professionals are here to help. The reality of interior design is that most people never invest in it. As s result, space in an indoor environment is under utilized and does nothing to reflect their unique taste and personality. As s result, you never truly feel one hundred percent at “home.” Guests and family members detect this. Fortunately, interior design services at McShane’s can help. Even a few hours of consultation will open the door to fully utilizing space and personal flavor that may have never been unlocked. This short flyer will introduce the thrilling process of interior design at your finger tips.
I. OVERVIEW
Interior Design need not be complicated or intimidating. Our staff exist to utilize professional design principals in unlocking your true taste. Services can span from an hour or two of consultation to a full blown interior design for your home or business. Many clients will contact us for party preparation or consultation. We are also well versed in “staging” homes for entertainment, open houses and photography. Our staff of experts are professionally trained in color theory, texture and space. This includes lighting, fixtures and tapestries. This handout outlines the typical process involved in contracting for an interior design plan.
II. SERVICES
Most interior design plans include a “story board” and “materials list” component. Sketches and formal plans may sometimes be included. “The story board includes samples of recommended colors, textures and materials for an indoor space. Given the diversity of an indoor environment, several boards can be created for a single project. The “materials list” provides a details account for what will be needed to make the ideas brought forward in the story boards work for given spaces. These two components can become critical when interfacing with a contractor involved in building or remodeling.
III. PROCESS
The process of interior design usually takes about a month, depending on the scope of the job. Often designers are retained for installation whether a contractor is involved or not. This can change the time frame. Here at McShane’s, we utilize an initial CONSULTATION phase. This allows customers that
are looking for “concepts” to interface with a professional from our staff. We highly recommend that clients fill out our “Interior Design Survey & Questionnaire” sheet prior as the designer will have a clear idea of what is desired ahead of the first meeting. The process usually goes as follows:
- Complete Client Information & Survey Sheet
- Initial Consultation – Interview / Contract / Visit / Meeting (1 hour)
- Indoor analysis and measurement and photography of existing conditions as needed
- Preparation of initial color, texture and materials program
- Revision of preliminary color, texture and materials program
- Presentation of finalized color, texture and materials program
- Preparation of materials list (interface with contractor(s) if needed)
- Meeting to present all finalized boards and materials list for approval by client (1 hour meeting)
Each job (including initial consultations) must include a written contract for services provided.
IV. BENEFITS & COSTING
Our interior designers are highly regarded for professionalism, creativity, trends and quality of work. McShane’s Nursery & Landscape Supply prides itself on the enormous benefit of having strength in both indoor and outdoor living.
Most jobs are bid out by the “project”. This is based on the number of hours involved in measurement, research, design and creation of story boards and / or drawing. Often clients ask for a make-over or renovation of existing interior design. The cost varies from project to project depending on the extent of work needed, in some cases costing just as much as starting from scratch. If consultation and limited interior design is desired, as-needed hourly consultation is another option.
The Initial Consultation is a great way to better understand the possibilities for your indoor environment! It allows clients the opportunity to utilize time with a professional or begin the process of a complete design. The initial consultation fee is due at the time of the first site visit and / or meeting. The consultation fee will be applied to the ultimate cost of a formal design. Should a formal design contract be signed, a 50% deposit is required up front. The remaining balance is due and payable upon completion and presentation of the final design. Any design or consultation above and beyond the agreement will be billed out at the published hourly rate.
We ask that all clients take the time to fill out one of our “Client Information & Survey” sheet. This saves time and allows our design staff to better understand the client and the goals they have for their indoor spaces. We also ask that clients do their best to locate and provide plans for their home and / or space of interest. If one is not easily found, our staff can work up measurements.
Once a design is completed by the staff at McShane’s Nursery & Landscape Supply, all home decore, furnishings and / or other items listed on the materials list will be offered to the client at our standard contractor discount for the project being designed ONLY.
