Sealing Natural Stone
Natural stone adds beauty to your home and is easy to maintain. With just a little regular maintenance you can keep stone looking like new. Properly sealing stone protects them from wear, tear and stains.
1. Apply the sealer to your stone using a clean rag or brush . Work one 4-to 5-square foot section at a time.
Let the sealer soak into the stone for about 4 minutes. When it is almost dry, apply a little more sealer and
rub with a clean rag.
2. Repeat Step 1 on the remaining sections of the counter in order to complete the first coat.
3. Wait at least 2 hours and follow the process again to complete the second coat.
4. Allow the sealer to completely absorb, usually about 24 hours, before using your counter.
Sealing Concrete
Sealing concrete is important for the longevity of the material. Once you pour a new foundation, driveway or wall sealing it is the next step. Water, dust and dirt can damage the concrete over time. This can deteriorate, crack and lower the value of your home. Sealing your concrete is a simple procedure that can save you money and time in the future
1. Purchase concrete sealer and concrete cleaner. Quikrete Multi Surface Concrete Sealer is a great sealer
to use. You can use other products to clean and seal your concrete if you so choose. Be sure to read all
directions on the back of the products that you have chosen.
2. Wait for the concrete to settle. It is important to wait at least 30 days after the concrete has been laid before
you seal it. This gives it time to settle, cure and become ready for the sealer.
3. Wear safety equipment. Before working with the cleaner or sealer, put on your rubber gloves and goggles to
protect your eyes and hands when working with chemicals.
4. Clean the concrete. First, you will need to sweep the concrete. Be sure you remove any excess dirt or debris
off the slab you are sealing. Pour your cleaner into your paint tray. The formula should be half cleaner and a
quarter of water. Then use your paint roller. Dip it in the paint tray then scrub the concrete with the cleaner
mixture. Once you have cleaned any set in dirt or grease off the slab, use your hose to remove the rest of
the cleaner. Let dry completely. If you are working during the rainy season, tarp or cover the concrete.
5. Wash out your paint roller and paint tray. Just like the concrete, these items need to be freshly cleaned and
dried before proceeding with the sealer.
6. Pour the sealer into your paint tray. Use your paint roller to apply to the concrete. You will want a medium
coat of sealant placed on the concrete. You will see a small color change. When this occurs, your concrete is
sufficiently sealed. Let the concrete dry fully. Cover the material with a tarp and keep pets or humans away
from the concrete until it is dry.
